Three quarter-final picks from the WTA Berlin Open today, with some interesting matchups on grass. We've got the world number one in action, a genuinely tricky H2H situation, and a home crowd factor worth thinking about. Let's get into it.
WTA Berlin Tennis Open Predictions
Aryna Sabalenka vs Nikola Bartunkova
Head-to-head: First meeting
Sabalenka is the best player in the world right now and Bartunkova, ranked 62nd, simply hasn't done enough on tour to suggest she can compete here on a fast grass court. Sabalenka's serve and groundstroke power are almost uniquely suited to this surface and she's been in dominant form through the draw. Hard to see this one going very long at all.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2
Linda Noskova vs Diane Parry
Head-to-head: Noskova 2-2 Parry
That H2H is about as even as it gets, and Parry has clearly found something against Noskova's game across their four meetings. That said, grass is a different conversation. Noskova's flat ball-striking and big first serve translate much better to this surface than Parry's slower, more rally-based approach, and that gap should make the difference even if the head-to-head says otherwise. I think Noskova gets through, but don't be surprised if Parry takes a set.
Prediction: Noskova in 3
Elina Svitolina vs Eva Lys
Head-to-head: Svitolina 1-0 Lys
Lys is a German wildcard who'll have the crowd behind her, and that energy is real on home soil. But Svitolina, a player who has consistently performed well at grass-court events across her career, has been one of the more reliable performers on the WTA tour for years and her defensive consistency makes her especially tough on a surface where so many players go for broke and leak errors. Lys hasn't beaten anyone near this level yet and Svitolina wins it comfortably.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2
