We've got three picks from today's Wimbledon schedule, and honestly it's about as favorable a set of matchups as the top players could ask for. Let's get into it.
Wimbledon Predictions
Alexander Blockx vs Alexander Zverev
Head-to-head: Zverev leads 2-0
Blockx has had a decent season and the ranking shows he's a legitimate tour-level player, but Zverev on grass is a different proposition entirely. Both previous meetings went Zverev's way and there's nothing about Blockx's game that suggests grass is where he'd close that gap. His results on the surface have been modest at best.
Zverev's serve is a genuine weapon on this surface and his ability to end points quickly should keep this comfortable. Hard to see Blockx troubling him here.
Prediction: Zverev in 3
Jannik Sinner vs Nuno Borges
Head-to-head: Sinner leads 1-0
Sinner is the world number one and coming into Wimbledon with the kind of form that makes you wonder if anyone on the tour can stop him right now. Borges is a solid player and that ranking is earned, but he's never been comfortable on grass and his serve-and-volley game simply isn't there. The one previous meeting went to Sinner and this one will too.
Sinner wins this, probably without dropping a set.
Prediction: Sinner in 3
Frances Tiafoe vs Terence Atmane
Head-to-head: Tiafoe leads 2-0
Tiafoe has owned this matchup so far and Atmane, despite his ranking climbing nicely this year, hasn't found an answer yet. Grass suits Tiafoe's big first serve and his ability to hit through the court on short balls, and I feel like this is a surface where the gap between them is actually bigger than the rankings suggest.
That said, Atmane's a fun player to watch and he'll have his moments, but Tiafoe should handle this without too much drama, all things considered.
Prediction: Tiafoe in 3
