One semi-final pick from Munich today, with clear skies and temperatures around 19°C making for ideal conditions on the clay. Can Cobolli keep his run going, or does Zverev close it out on home soil?
BMW Open Predictions
Alexander Zverev vs Flavio Cobolli
Head-to-head: Zverev 2-0 Cobolli
Zverev has never lost to Cobolli and both of those wins came in straight sets, so there's no reason to think the Italian has cracked the code yet. Playing in Munich, in front of a home crowd, in a semi-final, Zverev is about as dangerous as he gets on clay, and the slow conditions here, which have suited the bigger baseliners all week, let him sit back and grind opponents down in the long rallies he's become so good at winning.
That said, Cobolli has been impressive this week and he's the kind of player who can string together a run on these surfaces, so a tight first set wouldn't surprise me. I think Zverev gets through, should still find a way to get through here, but it might take him a set to really settle into the match.
Prediction: Zverev in 3
