We've got the BMW Open final in Munich to close out the week, with pleasant conditions and temperatures around 20°C making for a good day of tennis. It's a fascinating final on paper, a big-serving American on clay against an Italian who's been one of the best stories on tour this year.
BMW Open Munich Predictions
Flavio Cobolli vs Ben Shelton
Head-to-head: Cobolli 2-3 Shelton
Clay is easily Shelton's worst surface and he's made no secret of that over the years, so reaching a clay final in Munich is genuinely impressive. Cobolli has been excellent all week and the slow conditions here, which have been a theme throughout the tournament, tend to neutralize the serve a little, which is Shelton's biggest weapon. That should make this closer than their ranking difference suggests.
That said, Shelton leads the head-to-head 3-2 and has shown this week that he can grind when he needs to. I think his ability to take the ball early and not let Cobolli settle into long rallies is the difference. Cobolli's in great form but Shelton should still find a way to get through here.
Prediction: Shelton in 3
