Two French Open semi-finals to get into today, and both have at least one interesting storyline. We've got our picks for both matches below.
French Open Predictions
Jakub Mensik vs Alexander Zverev
Head-to-head: Mensik 0-1 Zverev
Mensik has had a remarkable run to get here, but this is a different kind of test. Zverev has been one of the best clay-court players in the world for years and Roland Garros in particular has been his tournament, reaching the final in 2024 and consistently going deep here. The slow Paris clay, which tends to neutralize big servers more than any other surface, really does suit his game, giving him time to load up on the forehand and grind opponents down from the baseline.
Mensik is talented and has a big serve that can bail him out on the big points, but he's never been in a Grand Slam semi-final before and Zverev won their only previous meeting. Zverev wins this and I wouldn't be surprised if it's fairly straightforward.
Prediction: Zverev in 2
Matteo Arnaldi vs Flavio Cobolli
Head-to-head: Arnaldi 3-2 Cobolli
This one is genuinely tricky. Arnaldi leads the head-to-head 3-2 and has clearly had Cobolli's number at times, but Arnaldi is ranked 457th right now, which tells you he's been dealing with some serious form or injury issues coming in. Hard to see this being competitive at all on paper, with Cobolli at 14 in the world the better player at this moment in time, and his aggressive ball-striking on clay is a real problem for most opponents.
That said, the H2H isn't nothing, and if Arnaldi is anywhere close to his best he can make this a long afternoon. I feel like Cobolli gets there in the end, but three sets feels right, all things considered.
Prediction: Cobolli in 3
