The French Open final is here, and we've got our take on what should be a fascinating finish to Roland Garros. Zverev against Cobolli is not the final most people had penciled in, but here we are, and it's a genuinely interesting matchup on paper.
French Open Predictions
Flavio Cobolli vs Alexander Zverev
Head-to-head: Cobolli 1-3 Zverev
Cobolli getting to a Grand Slam final at 23 is a remarkable story, and his clay game has clearly taken a huge step this fortnight. But Zverev in a Roland Garros final is a different animal entirely. He's been building toward this for years, finished runner-up here in 2024 losing to Alcaraz, and on slow Parisian clay he becomes almost impossible to attack, especially from the baseline where his lefty serve and heavy forehand just eat up space.
The one Cobolli win in their H2H came on a fast indoor surface, which tells you most of what you need to know about where the balance of power sits on this surface. Zverev won't panic if he drops a set and his ability to stay composed in long rallies and grind through pressure points has been the story of his whole tournament. Hard to see Cobolli making this truly competitive, but he'll probably take a set. That said, Zverev should still find a way to get through here, all things considered.
Prediction: Zverev in 3
