Two second-round matches on the Stuttgart clay today, with temperatures sitting around 46°F under partially cloudy skies, so conditions will be slow and heavy out there. We've got predictions for both, and the more interesting one might surprise you.

WTA Porsche Tennis Grand Prix Predictions

Leylah Annie Fernandez vs Zeynep Sonmez

Head-to-head: First meeting

Fernandez is the higher-ranked player here, but clay has never been her best surface and she's been inconsistent this season. Sonmez, on the other hand, has quietly been building a solid clay game and is comfortable in long grinding rallies, which is exactly what these conditions will produce today.

In cold, heavy air like this, the ball sits up and the baseline exchanges get longer, and that suits Sonmez perfectly. I think she has enough to take this one the distance and nick it in three, all things considered.

Prediction: Sonmez in 3

Alycia Parks vs Mirra Andreeva

Head-to-head: Parks 0-1 Andreeva

Andreeva already has a win over Parks in the books, and the gap between them has only grown since then. At 17, Andreeva was already beating top-50 players on clay, and she's now a top-10 fixture, comfortable and patient in long rallies and almost impossible to panic once she's settled into a match.

Parks is a big hitter with a huge forehand, but on slow clay in cold conditions she won't be able to hit through Andreeva consistently and the longer the points get the worse it is for her. Hard to see this being competitive at all.

Prediction: Andreeva in 2
