We've got one semi-final pick from the WTA Italian Open today, and it's a good one. Swiatek and Svitolina have built a real rivalry over the years, so who do you think takes this one?
WTA Italian Open Predictions
Iga Swiatek vs Elina Svitolina
Head-to-head: Swiatek 4-2 Svitolina
The overall record flatters Svitolina a little, because two of those wins came before Swiatek became the player she is now, and on clay specifically this is completely one-sided territory. Rome has been one of Swiatek's happiest hunting grounds and she moves through long rallies on this surface, probably better than anyone else on tour, in a way that very few players in the world can handle. Svitolina is a tough, experienced competitor and she'll make Iga work for it, but the pace and spin off that forehand on slow red clay is a brutal combination to face.
That said, Svitolina has had a strong week and she's not here by accident. If Swiatek has any lingering inconsistency from earlier rounds, the Ukrainian has the defensive solidity to drag it into a third set. I think this goes three but Swiatek closes it out, all things considered.
Prediction: Swiatek in 3
