Three second-round picks from the Libema Open in 's-Hertogenbosch today, and honestly, a couple of these results could raise some eyebrows. Who do you think pulls through?
WTA Libema Open Predictions
Anastasia Potapova vs Zeynep Sonmez
Head-to-head: Potapova 1-0 Sonmez
Potapova is the higher-ranked player and has beaten Sonmez before, but grass is a tricky surface for both of them and neither has a standout record on it. Potapova's flat ball-striking can be a real weapon when it clicks, but she's streaky and Sonmez has the consistency to make her uncomfortable if she's off.
I think this one goes the distance before Potapova finds enough to get through, all things considered.
Prediction: Potapova in 3
Barbora Krejcikova vs Hanne Vandewinkel
Head-to-head: First meeting
On paper Krejcikova has the pedigree, but she's had a really rough stretch of form and hasn't looked like herself in months. Vandewinkel is Belgian, so grass isn't foreign to her, and at home on this surface she's capable of causing problems for players who aren't moving and competing at their best. Krejcikova right now is not competing at her best.
Vandewinkel takes this in three.
Prediction: Vandewinkel in 3
Magda Linette vs Mia Pohankova
Head-to-head: First meeting
Linette is ranked 60th in the world against an opponent ranked 280th, so this looks straightforward on paper. But Pohankova is a young Czech player and grass suits the flatter, aggressive game that a lot of players from that school of tennis tend to bring and Linette hasn't been in great form lately. To make things worse, Linette has never been the most comfortable on grass and can get dragged into errors when the surface speeds things up.
Feel like the upset happens here.
Prediction: Pohankova in 3
