We've got three picks from the second round in 's-Hertogenbosch today, and there's at least one result here that might raise some eyebrows. Let's get into it.
WTA Libema Open Predictions
Caty McNally vs Solana Sierra
Head-to-head: McNally 0-1 Sierra
Sierra got the better of McNally in their only previous meeting, but I think the surface flips this one around. McNally's serve and flat ball-striking off both wings suits grass well, and she's been building nicely on this surface over the last couple of seasons. Sierra is a competent hard-court mover but hasn't shown anything on grass to suggest she can really trouble McNally here.
Should be close enough for a third set, but McNally gets through, all things considered.
Prediction: McNally in 3
Barbora Krejcikova vs Hanne Vandewinkel
Head-to-head: First meeting
This is a tricky one on paper given Krejcikova's ranking, but she's had a difficult stretch of form and hasn't looked comfortable lately, and Vandewinkel is a Belgian player who genuinely knows how to use grass. The conditions should suit her flat, direct hitting, and first meetings can go either way when the favorite is short on confidence. Krejcikova is a former Wimbledon champion, which you'd think would count for a lot here, so she's not exactly a stranger to this surface, but right now she doesn't look like herself.
Vandewinkel steals this one in three.
Prediction: Vandewinkel in 3
Ajla Tomljanovic vs Dayana Yastremska
Head-to-head: Tomljanovic 0-4 Yastremska
Four wins from four for Yastremska in this head-to-head, and that kind of one-sided record isn't a coincidence. Yastremska's aggressive, flat hitting causes Tomljanovic real problems and Tomljanovic has also had a tough road back from injury and hasn't been at her best for a while now. Hard to see this being competitive at all on a fast grass court where Yastremska's clean striking off the ground is going to be even harder to handle than usual.
Prediction: Yastremska in 3
