We've got three first-round picks from the Mallorca Championships to get into today. Grass always throws up a few surprises early in the week, so let's see which of these favorites actually delivers.
Mallorca Championships Predictions
Corentin Moutet vs Marton Fucsovics
Head-to-head: Moutet 2-2 Fucsovics
A perfectly even head-to-head, but the surface should tip this one toward Moutet. His lefty slice and awkward angles are tailor-made for grass, and he's someone who genuinely enjoys playing on it, which you can't say for everyone on tour. Fucsovics is a capable player but his flat, straight-line hitting doesn't cause the kind of problems on this surface that it does on hard courts.
I think Moutet gets through, though probably not without dropping a set, all things considered. He can be his own worst enemy at times, and Fucsovics is consistent enough to make him pay for any lapses.
Prediction: Moutet in 3
Miomir Kecmanovic vs Hamad Medjedovic
Head-to-head: First meeting
Medjedovic is a name people are starting to pay attention to, and rightly so, but Kecmanovic is the more complete player right now and has the experience edge in situations like this. Kecmanovic's game translates reasonably well to grass, he's solid off both wings and doesn't give you many free points, and that kind of reliability matters in best-of-three.
That said, Medjedovic might make it interesting, but Kecmanovic takes this one.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 3
Yannick Hanfmann vs Adolfo Daniel Vallejo
Head-to-head: First meeting
Hanfmann's big serve and aggressive game off the ground are exactly what you want on grass, and Vallejo at 71 in the world hasn't made much noise on this surface. There's not a lot of data on Vallejo's grass record, but nothing suggests he's going to trouble someone like Hanfmann here and this is one of the more straightforward results of the day.
Prediction: Hanfmann in 3
