We've got one pick from the US Open quarter-finals today, and honestly it's not the most nail-biting matchup on paper. That said, Flushing Meadows has a way of making things interesting.
US Open Predictions
Alexander Zverev vs Botic Van De Zandschulp
Head-to-head: First meeting
Zverev reaching a Grand Slam quarter-final is nothing new at this point, but getting there as the number two seed at a US Open where he's been so close before, including that 2020 final run, gives this one a bit of extra weight. He's been moving well through the draw and the hard court conditions at Flushing suit his big serve and heavy forehand perfectly. Van De Zandschulp is a quality player who's beaten some good names to get here, and credit where it's due, making a US Open quarter-final at rank 70 is a real achievement.
But Zverev at a Slam quarter-final on hard courts, fully healthy and with a point to prove, is a different proposition altogether. Van De Zandschulp doesn't have the firepower to hurt him consistently and Zverev isn't going to give him enough free points to stay in sets. Hard to see this being competitive at all.
Prediction: Zverev in 3, should still find a way to get through here, all things considered.
