Wimbledon qualifying is here, and we've got three picks from the first round to get into. These matches are tricky to call at the best of times, but there's at least one potential upset in the mix today that's worth talking about.
WTA Wimbledon Qualifying Predictions
Katie Volynets vs Laura Samson
Head-to-head: First meeting
Volynets has been quietly putting together a solid 2025 and the ranking gap here is real. Samson sits outside the top 140 and hasn't shown much on grass specifically, and this feels like a fairly comfortable assignment for Volynets to handle without too much drama.
Prediction: Volynets in 2
Xiyu Wang vs Hanyu Guo
Head-to-head: Wang 2-0 Guo
Wang leads the head-to-head 2-0, but both of those wins came on hard courts, and grass is a very different conversation. Guo is ranked 56 spots below Wang on paper, but rankings at this level on this surface don't tell the whole story and I think the conditions could level things out enough for Guo to find a way through. Wang hasn't been in great form either, so backing the upset here feels justified.
Prediction: Guo in 3
Maddison Inglis vs Lucia Bronzetti
Head-to-head: First meeting
Bronzetti is the higher-ranked player coming in, but Inglis is Australian and has spent real time developing her game on grass, which matters in qualifying. Bronzetti is a clay-court player at heart and has never looked particularly dangerous on this surface. That said, Inglis in three sets feels right, though it probably won't be easy, all things considered.
Prediction: Inglis in 3
