Wimbledon qualifying finals are here, and a spot in the main draw is on the line for everyone today. We've got three picks from the final qualifying round, and honestly the margins between these players are pretty slim across the board, so let's get into it.
WTA Wimbledon Predictions
Katie Volynets vs Leolia Jeanjean
Head-to-head: Volynets 1-0 Jeanjean
Volynets took their only previous meeting, and on grass she's been a quietly solid performer with a game that transitions well to the surface. Jeanjean is a grinder who tends to thrive on slower courts and Wimbledon qualifying grass isn't really where her strengths shine brightest.
I think Volynets gets through this one without too much drama. Her serve should give her enough free points to stay ahead of Jeanjean, who'll need things to get scrappy to have a real shot.
Prediction: Volynets in 2
Polina Kudermetova vs Alina Charaeva
Head-to-head: Kudermetova 2-0 Charaeva
Kudermetova leads this H2H 2-0, so there's a clear pattern here, but the ranking gap is almost nothing and Charaeva will fancy her chances of making it closer this time. Hard to see either player getting dominated at all.
Kudermetova should get over the line, but this feels like a three-setter. That said, the grass might actually help Charaeva keep it tight, and Kudermetova will need to earn it.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 3
Ashlyn Krueger vs Polina Iatcenko
Head-to-head: First meeting
Krueger comes in ranked nearly 60 places above Iatcenko and has been one of the more promising American players on tour over the last year or so, with a serve and a forehand that suit grass nicely. Iatcenko hasn't made much of a mark at this level yet, and the ranking difference is hard to ignore.
That said, Wimbledon qualifying on grass is unpredictable and first meetings can go either way, so don't be shocked if Iatcenko makes this uncomfortable. Krueger in three seems right, all things considered.
Prediction: Krueger in 3
