We've got three first-round picks from the WTA Singapore Tennis Open today, and it's an interesting slate with a couple of fresh matchups and one rematch that could go either way. The venue is indoor so we're dodging that 90°F heat and rain outside. Let's get into it.
WTA Singapore Tennis Open Predictions
Donna Vekic vs Xinyu Wang
Head-to-head: Vekic 2-1 Wang
Vekic leads the head-to-head, but this one feels a lot closer than that record suggests. Wang has been in solid form and is ranked just three spots below Vekic right now, so there's almost nothing separating them on paper. On a fast indoor hard court, Wang's flat ball-striking can be genuinely difficult to handle and she's the kind of player who can take over a set quickly when she's hitting clean.
Vekic is no slouch on hard courts either, but I think Wang's ability to dictate pace gives her the edge in this particular setting. A three-setter feels right, and Wang flips the head-to-head.
Prediction: Wang in 3
Alycia Parks vs Janice Tjen
Head-to-head: First meeting
Parks has the power and the serve to hurt anyone, but Tjen is ranked 21 spots above her and has been more consistent through 2025. Hard to see this being competitive at all once Tjen settles in, and Parks isn't the kind of player you can dismiss, but Tjen's ranking advantage reflects real results and she should be the more composed player when it gets tight in the third.
Prediction: Tjen in 3
Talia Gibson vs Fiona Ferro
Head-to-head: First meeting
Gibson has been quietly building since returning to the tour and sitting at 62 in the world is no accident, but Ferro is a tricky opponent who knows how to use variety to break rhythm, and she's done it against higher-ranked players before. That said, Gibson tends to be more comfortable when she can settle into a pattern, and Ferro's game is built to deny exactly that. Ferro wins this one, all things considered.
Prediction: Ferro in 3
