We've got three picks from the Bad Homburg qualifying draw today, with grass-court tennis already underway ahead of Wimbledon season. All three of these look like they could go the distance, so let's get into it.
WTA Bad Homburg Open Predictions
Solana Sierra vs Ella Seidel
Head-to-head: Sierra 1-0 Seidel
Sierra comes in ranked 36 spots higher and already has a win over Seidel on her record, which is a decent foundation for a qualifying opener on a surface that tends to separate players pretty quickly. Seidel is a home wildcard hope on paper but hasn't shown much at this level consistently and Sierra's ranking reflects a steadier run of results over the past year.
I think this one goes three sets, because grass qualifying matches are notoriously unpredictable in the early going, but Sierra should have enough to close it out, all things considered.
Prediction: Sierra in 3
Shuai Zhang vs Elena Gabriela Ruse
Head-to-head: Zhang 2-0 Ruse
Zhang has never lost to Ruse and is the higher-ranked player here, so the case for her is pretty straightforward. Ruse can be streaky and has had a mixed 2025, and grass isn't really where she's built her best results. That said, Zhang has some grass-court experience from her years on tour and knows how to keep matches tight when she needs to.
Zhang takes this one, though don't be surprised if Ruse pushes her in a set.
Prediction: Zhang in 3
Anna Blinkova vs Yulia Putintseva
Head-to-head: Blinkova 2-2 Putintseva
This is the most interesting match of the three. The H2H is completely level and Putintseva, ranked 21 spots above Blinkova, has been one of the more entertaining players on tour this season with that defensive retrieval game, which few players on the women's tour do as relentlessly, that can drag anyone into uncomfortable patterns on fast surfaces. Grass does tend to cut rallies short, which might slightly favour Blinkova's flatter ball striking, but Putintseva has reached the Wimbledon fourth round before and isn't exactly lost out here.
All things considered, Putintseva's ranking and recent consistency give her the nod in what should be a close one.
Prediction: Putintseva in 3
