We've got one pick from the Stuttgart quarter-finals today, and it's a genuinely interesting one. Shelton is the big name here, but grass has a funny way of leveling things out, and this match feels trickier than the rankings suggest.
Boss Open Predictions
Ben Shelton vs Sho Shimabukuro
Head-to-head: First meeting
On paper this looks like a walkover for the American number five seed, but Shimabukuro has quietly been one of the better grass-court movers on tour this week and the surface genuinely suits his game. He's compact, quick and doesn't give you easy points, and on a fast indoor surface like Stuttgart that matters a lot. Shelton's serve is always a factor, but his return game on grass has been inconsistent and Shimabukuro is the kind of player who can neutralize big servers by just getting everything back.
Shelton hasn't looked totally convincing this week either, and I feel like the pressure of being the heavy favorite against a player with nothing to lose could work against him. That said, Shimabukuro in three is the upset call here, but it's not as wild as it sounds, all things considered.
Prediction: Shimabukuro in 3
