We've got one semi-final pick from the Madrid Open today, and it's a genuinely interesting one. Kostyuk and Potapova have split their previous four meetings evenly, so there's no obvious form guide to lean on here.
WTA Madrid Open Predictions
Marta Kostyuk vs Anastasia Potapova
Head-to-head: Kostyuk 2-2 Potapova
A 2-2 head-to-head in a semi-final is about as open as it gets on paper, but Kostyuk is the higher-ranked player and has been the more consistent performer across the clay swing. She hits through the ball cleanly off both wings and the slow Madrid conditions, one of the heavier bounces on the whole clay calendar, suit someone who can absorb pace and redirect it, and that's exactly what she does well.
Potapova is dangerous when she's on, and she's earned her spot here, but she tends to go through patches in longer matches where the level drops sharply. That said, a three-setter feels likely given the history between these two, and I think Kostyuk has enough in the tank to close it out when it matters, all things considered.
Prediction: Kostyuk in 3
