Two semi-final picks from the WTA Canadian Open today, and both matchups have enough history behind them to make things interesting. Let's get into it.

WTA Canadian Open Predictions

Cori Gauff vs Elena Rybakina

Head-to-head: Gauff 1-0 Rybakina

That one H2H win for Gauff came at the 2023 US Open final, which is obviously a painful memory for Rybakina. But that was a couple of years ago and Rybakina on hard courts is genuinely one of the most difficult players to deal with on tour, especially when her serve is clicking and she's stepping into her backhand. Gauff has had some good results lately but she's also been inconsistent, and a fully locked-in Rybakina is a different problem than most opponents she faces.

I think this goes three sets because Gauff won't just fold, but Rybakina has too much firepower for hard courts and should come through in the end.

Prediction: Rybakina in 3

Elina Svitolina vs Iga Swiatek

Head-to-head: Svitolina 3-4 Swiatek

Svitolina is one of the few players on tour who genuinely makes Swiatek uncomfortable and that H2H is close enough that you can't completely dismiss her. She's exceptional at neutralizing pace and making rallies ugly, and Swiatek can get frustrated when opponents take away her rhythm. That said, Swiatek has looked sharper this week than she did through stretches of the summer, and Svitolina beating her three times out of seven doesn't mean she's the favorite here.

Svitolina will make it competitive and probably take this deep, but Swiatek should still find a way to get through here, all things considered.

Prediction: Swiatek in 3
