A few first-round picks from Flushing Meadows to get into today, with some interesting matchups across the draw. We've got three predictions for you, so let's see who's moving through.

WTA US Open Predictions

Mirra Andreeva vs Janice Tjen

Head-to-head: Andreeva 1-0 Tjen

Tjen is ranked 35th, which sounds respectable until you remember she's walking onto a hard court against a top-5 player who has been one of the most composed teenagers on tour for the past two years. Andreeva already has a win over her and nothing about that matchup looks different now.

This one shouldn't go long. Andreeva is so good at not panicking in rallies and she controls tempo better than almost anyone at her age. Tjen will need a near-perfect day to even take a set, and I don't see that happening here.

Prediction: Andreeva in 2

Iva Jovic vs Magdalena Frech

Head-to-head: First meeting

Frech is a solid hard-court player and she's been consistent enough to reach 37 in the world, so this isn't a freebie for Jovic. But Jovic at 14 in the world has the bigger upside on this surface and the US Open crowd tends to bring something extra out of the American players, which Jovic will feel.

I feel like this one goes the distance. Frech won't go away quietly and she keeps the ball in play well enough to force Jovic into a third set. That said, Jovic should have enough to close it out, all things considered.

Prediction: Jovic in 3

Zeynep Sonmez vs Cori Gauff

Head-to-head: First meeting

Gauff is the defending champion at Flushing Meadows, playing in front of a home crowd that absolutely adores her, on the surface she knows best. Sonmez is a decent player and ranked 52nd, but this is a brutal first-round draw for her.

Hard to see this being competitive at all. Her serve has improved and her ability to finish points at the net has grown a lot over the past year and Sonmez just doesn't have the tools to trouble her here on this stage.

Prediction: Gauff in 2
