One of the best matchups on paper in this year's women's draw, and it's happening on Arthur Ashe in the semis. We've got our prediction for the Gauff vs Rybakina clash today.
WTA US Open Predictions
Cori Gauff vs Elena Rybakina
Head-to-head: Gauff 1-1 Rybakina
Both meetings have been tight, and neither player has really dominated the other. The last time they played, Gauff came out on top, which will give the home crowd something to hold onto. But Rybakina on a fast hard court is a different problem to almost anyone else on tour, and the US Open's conditions, which consistently play quicker than most hardcourt slams, suit her flat, heavy ball beautifully. Her serve alone can neutralize Gauff's aggressive returning and when that thing is clicking, rallies are over before they start.
Gauff is playing in front of her home crowd and she's shown this year that she's become so good at not panicking in the big moments, so this won't be a walkover. That said, I feel like Rybakina's combination of serve and groundstroke power is just a bit too much over a full three sets here, especially if the match gets tight in the later stages. Should be a fantastic match either way.
Prediction: Rybakina in 3
