A few third-round picks from Cincinnati today, and there's some decent drama on offer. We've got an all-American matchup, a big-serving battle, and an upset-alert match that could go either way. Who do you think comes through?
Cincinnati Open Predictions
Learner Tien vs Frances Tiafoe
Head-to-head: Tien 1-1 Tiafoe
These two split their previous meetings, but Tien has been the more consistent player on hard courts this year and at ranking 12 he's come a long way fast. Tiafoe can obviously go on a tear when the crowd gets behind him and he's feeling it, but his level has been all over the place in 2025 and you never quite know which version shows up.
I think Tien's steadiness wins out here. He doesn't panic in tight moments the way a younger version of himself might have and Tiafoe will need to play his absolute best tennis to pull this off. In three, but Tien gets there.
Prediction: Tien in 3
Arthur Fils vs Jiri Lehecka
Head-to-head: Fils 1-0 Lehecka
Fils leads the head-to-head and has looked sharp on hard courts lately, with his ability to absorb pace and redirect at speed making him tough to break down. Lehecka is dangerous when he's serving well and hitting clean, but he can drift in and out of matches in a way that costs him against players who stay disciplined.
Fils gets through this one. He's the more complete player right now and the conditions should suit his game just fine, all things considered.
Prediction: Fils in 3
Juan Manuel Cerundolo vs Felix Auger Aliassime
Head-to-head: Cerundolo 1-0 Aliassime
Cerundolo holds the H2H lead, but that one win came on clay, and this is a very different conversation on hard courts where FAA is a top-five player with real power off both wings and a serve that can end points instantly. Cerundolo is a solid clay specialist who's ranked 51st for a reason on faster surfaces. That said, FAA at his best is simply a level above him here.
Hard to see this being competitive at all. The surface flips the dynamic entirely.
Prediction: Aliassime in 2
