Two Russians who hit the ball incredibly hard and make very few concessions from the baseline, so this one could go anywhere. Their head-to-head is perfectly level, and with both players capable of going on runs where they're almost impossible to stop, it really does come down to who's sharper on the day.
Shnaider is the higher-ranked player and has had the better 2025 overall and on a hard court where her flat ball-striking is at its most dangerous, I think that edge is enough. But don't be surprised if this one goes deep into a third.

Svitolina is a completely different level to Kudermetova right now and hard to see this being competitive at all. Ranked 98 places above her opponent and with real experience in big moments on hard courts, Svitolina should still find a way to get through here, all things considered.
