Three quarter-final picks from the Mubadala DC Open today, with temperatures sitting around 79°F and climbing toward a high of 90°F in Washington. Pegula is the obvious headline, but the other two matches are more interesting than the seedings suggest. Who do you think makes the semis?
WTA Mubadala DC Open Predictions
Jessica Pegula vs Anna Kalinskaya
Head-to-head: Pegula 4-1 Kalinskaya
Pegula has this matchup pretty well figured out. Four wins from five meetings is a dominant record against any top-30 player and on a hard court in front of a home crowd she's going to be tough to shift. Kalinskaya can be dangerous when she's striking cleanly, but she hasn't shown enough consistency this season to pull off a result like this.
Prediction: Pegula in 2
Alexandra Eala vs Elina Svitolina
Head-to-head: Eala 1-1 Svitolina
The fact that Eala already has a win over Svitolina on the board makes this genuinely interesting. Svitolina is experienced and grind-it-out hard courts suit her well, but Eala has been one of the most exciting young players on tour this year and clearly doesn't get intimidated by bigger names. That said, this one should go deep and Svitolina, a player who rarely gives away free points, will make Eala work for everything.
Prediction: Shnaider in 3
Elisabetta Cocciaretto vs Naomi Osaka
Head-to-head: Cocciaretto 0-1 Osaka
Osaka's return to the top 15 has been one of the nicer stories of 2025, and hard courts are obviously where she does her best work. Hard to see this being competitive at all. Cocciaretto will need everything to go right, all things considered.
Prediction: Osaka in 2
