We've got three semi-final picks from the WTA Oeiras Open today, under partially cloudy skies and a pleasant 66°F. None of these matchups are particularly star-studded, but there's some interesting tennis to break down, so let's get into it.
WTA Oeiras Open Predictions
Darja Semenistaja vs Carole Monnet
Head-to-head: Semenistaja 2-2 Monnet
A tied head-to-head makes this one feel genuinely open, but Semenistaja is ranked 66 spots higher and has been the more consistent player over the past year. Monnet has her moments and clearly knows how to handle this matchup, so don't expect a walkover.
That said, Semenistaja's level on clay has been solid and I think she finds a way through, even if it takes three sets to get there.
Prediction: Semenistaja in 3
Polina Kudermetova vs Whitney Osuigwe
Head-to-head: First meeting
First meeting between two players who've had up-and-down seasons, but Kudermetova holds the ranking edge and clay suits her game better than it does Osuigwe's. Hard to see this being competitive at all, and three sets feels generous given the surface advantage. Osuigwe is a fighter but these kinds of matches on smaller WTA clay events rarely go smoothly.
Prediction: Kudermetova in 3
Elena Pridankina vs Fiona Ferro
Head-to-head: First meeting
Ferro has had a rough stretch rankings-wise but she's a former top-60 player and this clay surface, which has always suited her style of play, should bring out the best in her. Pridankina is ranked lower and hasn't shown the same level of experience at this stage of a tournament. That said, Ferro knows what it takes to win on clay and should be the more composed player when it matters, all things considered.
Prediction: Ferro in 3
