A rainy day in Guadalajara, and we've got three second-round picks to get through from the Guadalajara Open Akron. The conditions indoors won't matter much, but the competition is heating up. Let's see who moves through.
WTA Guadalajara Open Akron Predictions
Diane Parry vs Peyton Stearns
Head-to-head: First meeting
Parry has been one of the more quietly consistent players on tour this year, and at 31 in the world she's got a real edge in experience over Stearns, who's had a bumpy 2025 so far. Parry's game on hard courts is built around reading pace and redirecting it and that tends to neutralize power hitters before they can get a rhythm going.
Stearns has the weapons to take a set, and in a first meeting anything can happen early on. But I think Parry's steadiness becomes the difference as the match stretches on.
Prediction: Parry in 3
Cristina Bucsa vs Panna Udvardy
Head-to-head: Bucsa 2-0 Udvardy
Bucsa owns this head-to-head and there's no reason to think that changes today. She's ranked 28 spots above Udvardy and has been hitting the ball cleanly on hard courts this season. That said, Udvardy is a scrappy player who can make things uncomfortable, but Bucsa has already figured her out twice and should be comfortable with what's coming.
Prediction: Bucsa in 3
Alycia Parks vs Sara Bejlek
Head-to-head: Parks 0-2 Bejlek
This one looks tricky on paper given Parks' ranking, but Bejlek has beaten her twice already and is actually ranked higher at 30 in the world. Parks can be electric when things are going her way, but she's shown a tendency to go flat when opponents don't give her easy pace to work with, and Bejlek is exactly that kind of player, grinding and consistent and not offering much for free.
The head-to-head, which already shows a clean 2-0 sweep, tells the real story here. Bejlek wins this, all things considered.
Prediction: Bejlek in 3
