Three qualifying final picks from 's-Hertogenbosch today, where a spot in the main draw is on the line for each of these pairs. Grass always throws up a few surprises at this stage, so let's see who's making it through.
Libema Open Predictions
Benjamin Bonzi vs Bernard Tomic
Head-to-head: First meeting
Tomic is still floating around the tour at 32 and ranked 194, which tells you most of what you need to know. Bonzi is a proper top-100 player who's been competing at a decent level on the ATP Tour, and on grass, where the ball stays low and margins are tight, his consistency and serve should be more than enough here. That said, Tomic can still produce on grass, it's the one surface where his game has always made sense, but he's not in any kind of form that makes him a real threat to someone ranked 100 spots above him.
Prediction: Bonzi in 3
Niels Visker vs Elias Ymer
Head-to-head: First meeting
Visker is ranked 469 and this is essentially a home match for him in the Netherlands, so he'll have the crowd, but Ymer is the better player by a clear margin and has the experience of competing regularly on tour. I think the crowd noise fades pretty quickly once the level difference starts showing and Ymer gets through this one, though grass isn't his most natural surface and Visker will make him work for it.
Prediction: Ymer in 3
James McCabe vs Sander Jong
Head-to-head: First meeting
Jong is ranked 869 and McCabe is at 234, and on grass at this stage of qualifying that gap is pretty hard to bridge. Hard to see this being competitive at all. The grass should suit a serve-and-volley style if McCabe has one, but even without it, the ranking difference does the talking.
Prediction: McCabe in 3
