We've got one pick from the Birmingham quarter-finals today, and it's a fun one. A wildcard making a deep run on home soil against a ranked opponent on grass. What's not to like?
WTA Lexus Birmingham Open Predictions
Nikola Bartunkova vs Mika Stojsavljevic
Head-to-head: First meeting
Stojsavljevic is ranked 288th in the world but she's been one of the stories of this tournament, and the crowd is absolutely going to be behind her on home turf. Grass is where British wildcards, perhaps more than any other surface, cause the most damage and a quarter-final run already tells you she's been playing well this week.
That said, Bartunkova is a top-70 player and that gap in ranking doesn't come from nowhere. She's the more experienced player at this level and grass shouldn't be a problem for her. I think the occasion pushes this to three sets, with the crowd making it uncomfortable, but Bartunkova should still find a way to get through here.
Prediction: Bartunkova in 3
