Head-to-head: First meeting
Darderi has been one of the more impressive clay-court performers on tour over the last year or so, and reaching a semi-final in Bastad feels very much in line with what he's capable of. The slow, heavy clay here suits his game and if the rain delays make conditions even heavier, that only helps him more.
Vallejo reaching this stage is genuinely impressive for a player ranked 71st, and he deserves credit for getting here. That said, Darderi is a different level of opponent, and I feel like the gap between them shows up pretty clearly once the match gets going. Darderi in 3 feels right, all things considered, though Vallejo will make him work for it.
