Stuttgart qualifying reaches its final round today, and we've got three matches to work through before the main draw gets underway. Who do you think makes it through?
WTA Porsche Tennis Grand Prix Predictions
Zeynep Sonmez vs Anna-Lena Friedsam
Head-to-head: Sonmez 0-1 Friedsam
Friedsam has that one win over Sonmez on her record, but the ranking gap here is pretty hard to ignore. Sonmez is inside the top 80 and has been a consistent presence on the WTA tour, while Friedsam has slipped to 200 and is well past her best years on clay.
That said, home support in Stuttgart could give Friedsam a lift, and these qualifying matches can be scrappy and unpredictable. I think Sonmez is the better player right now and gets through, should still find a way to get through here, but it probably takes three sets.
Prediction: Sonmez in 3
Vera Zvonareva vs Gabriela Andrea Knutson
Head-to-head: First meeting
Zvonareva is 39 and ranked 338 in the world, but she's a former top-two player and someone who knows exactly how to win matches at this level. Knutson is younger and ranked higher, but this is a player who's never really broken through on clay and has limited experience in this kind of pressure situation. Zvonareva wins this.
Prediction: Zvonareva in 3
Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Oceane Dodin
Head-to-head: Sasnovich 1-0 Dodin
Dodin is ranked 564 in the world, and the gap between these two is enormous. Sasnovich is a solid clay-court player who moves the ball well and doesn't give opponents easy points, and Dodin at this stage of her career, having struggled to string results together for a couple of seasons now, simply isn't equipped to handle that on this surface. Hard to see this being competitive at all. Sasnovich cruises through.
Prediction: Sasnovich in 2
