We've got three picks from the WTA French Open qualifying round today, and honestly some interesting matchups to dig into. Let's get into it.
WTA French Open Qualifying Predictions
Sinja Kraus vs Noma Akugue Noha
Head-to-head: Kraus 0-1 Noha
The one previous meeting between these two already went Noha's way, and the German teenager has looked sharp lately, breaking into the top 170 with some solid results on tour. Kraus is the higher-ranked player here and shouldn't be dismissed, but Noha's game travels well to clay and she's shown she can handle this level.
I think Noha takes it again, though getting over the line in straight sets might be a stretch given Kraus's ranking advantage.
Prediction: Noha in 3
Alina Korneeva vs Jazmin Ortenzi
Head-to-head: First meeting
Korneeva has the ranking edge and has been one of the more promising young players on the WTA tour over the past year, but Ortenzi is a natural clay-courter from Argentina and these are exactly the conditions she grew up playing in. First meetings on clay between players at this level tend to be tight, and the ranking gap isn't big enough to be decisive.
Ortenzi gets through, but it goes three sets.
Prediction: Ortenzi in 3
Lucrezia Stefanini vs Alina Charaeva
Head-to-head: First meeting
Charaeva is ranked 32 spots above Stefanini, a gap that feels pretty telling at this stage of qualifying, and has been the more consistent performer at this level recently. Stefanini is a clay-court player by background, being Italian and having spent most of her career on the surface, but she's been struggling to string results together and hard to see this being competitive at all. That said, Charaeva is the better player right now by most measures.
Prediction: Charaeva in 2
