We've got three picks from the EFG Swiss Open in Gstaad today, with the weather looking a bit dicey at 69°F and a 90% chance of rain hanging over the clay. Anything could get interrupted or pushed back, so keep an eye on the schedule. Let's get into it.
EFG Swiss Open Predictions
Raphael Collignon vs Lorenzo Sonego
Head-to-head: First meeting
Collignon is ranked nearly 40 spots above Sonego right now, which tells you something about where both players are in 2025. Sonego was a much bigger name a couple of years ago but he's been sliding, and the ranking gap here is real. Collignon is the younger, more in-form player and on a slow clay surface in Switzerland this feels like a comfortable night's work for him.
That said, Sonego on clay isn't someone you completely write off, and these indoor-outdoor clay events in Europe can produce weird results. I think this goes three sets but Collignon gets there, all things considered.
Prediction: Collignon in 3
Arthur Rinderknech vs Clement Tabur
Head-to-head: First meeting
Tabur is ranked 178th and Rinderknech is a top-30 player, so hard to see this being competitive at all. Rinderknech's big serve plays on any surface and Tabur hasn't done anything on the tour to suggest he can disrupt a player of this level. Rinderknech wins this, probably in three because these slower clay courts tend to drag things out a bit, but he should be in control throughout.
Prediction: Rinderknech in 3
Alexandre Muller vs Alexander Shevchenko
Head-to-head: Muller 2-0 Shevchenko
This is the interesting one. Muller leads the H2H 2-0 and is actually ranked lower than Shevchenko, so picking Shevchenko to flip this feels like a genuine call rather than a safe one. Muller at 132 in the world isn't exactly playing the best tennis of his life, and Shevchenko has been more consistent across the clay swing. The conditions in Gstaad, slow and heavy with all that rain around, suit a grinder more than a big hitter and Shevchenko fits that profile better.
That said, Muller's two previous wins, both coming before Shevchenko's recent run of form, might give him some mental edge here, but form and ranking both point the other way right now. Shevchenko in 3.
Prediction: Shevchenko in 3
