Just the one match to dig into today from Barcelona qualifying, with wet and cold conditions making things miserable out there, temperatures barely cracking 10°C and rain pretty much guaranteed all day. Could be a stop-start afternoon if they get on court at all.
Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell Qualifying Predictions
Camilo Ugo Carabelli vs Karen Khachanov
Head-to-head: First meeting
On paper this looks like a mismatch, but clay is where Ugo Carabelli really lives. The Argentine is comfortable grinding from the baseline and the slow Barcelona clay suits his game far more than it does Khachanov's. The Russian has never looked truly at home on this surface, and his ranking flatters him a bit when you look at his clay results specifically.
Khachanov hasn't had a great run of form recently either, and coming through qualifying demands a certain kind of clay-court grit that Ugo Carabelli has in abundance, and it's hard to see Khachanov matching that here. I think this goes the distance, with the Argentine's comfort on the surface making the difference in the third, all things considered.
Prediction: Carabelli in 3
