Two semi-final picks from Kitzbühel today, with pleasant conditions on the clay at 56°F and partially cloudy skies. Both matches have some interesting H2H angles, so let's get into it.

Generali Open Predictions

Alexander Bublik vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry

Head-to-head: Bublik 0-1 Etcheverry

Etcheverry won their only previous meeting, but Bublik has been in terrific form lately and clay at altitude in Kitzbühel plays a bit differently than most red clay, a little faster and with a higher bounce that can neutralize heavy topspin. That's not great news for Etcheverry, who relies on grinding opponents into the dirt from the baseline. Bublik's flat, aggressive hitting and his ability to shorten points with the serve and the drop shot makes him a genuinely awkward opponent on this particular surface.

Etcheverry is no pushover and he'll make Bublik work, but I think the Kazakh's game translates better here than at a place like Rome or Madrid and that should be the difference over three sets.

Prediction: Bublik in 3

Yannick Hanfmann vs Quentin Halys

Head-to-head: Hanfmann 0-2 Halys

Halys leads the H2H and is ranked 31 places lower than Hanfmann, which tells you this one's closer than the ranking gap suggests. Halys is a big hitter and can be unplayable on a given day, but his level tends to fluctuate a lot, and at this stage of a clay event on a cooler afternoon, Hanfmann's consistency should start to matter more than Halys's occasional brilliance.

Hanfmann knows how to grind on clay and the conditions today, cool and slow, suit his game nicely. That said, the H2H record is a concern, but Hanfmann should still find a way to get through here, all things considered.

Prediction: Hanfmann in 3
