A semi-final pick from Eastbourne today, and it's a genuinely surprising one. Toby Samuel, ranked 142nd in the world and playing on a wildcard, has already done enough this week to turn heads, and we think he's got one more result in him.
Lexus Eastbourne Open Predictions
Zizou Bergs vs Toby Samuel
Head-to-head: First meeting
On paper, Bergs is the clear favorite here. He's a solid top-50 player and grass isn't a surface he's uncomfortable on. But Samuel is a British wildcard playing in front of a home crowd, and grass is genuinely his best surface, the kind of conditions where a player ranked 142nd can close the gap in a real hurry.
Bergs hasn't had a standout grass season and there's nothing in his recent results that screams he's peaking right now. That said, Samuel has been sharp all week and the momentum is firmly on his side. Getting to a semi-final at this level on grass isn't luck and I feel like he's got the game to take this to three and nick it, all things considered.
Prediction: Samuel in 3
